Thermal ablation for precancerous lesions of the cervix

Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), also known as cervical dysplasia, is an abnormal growth of cells on the surface of the cervix.
It is histologically diagnosed as CIN1, CIN2 or CIN3. The cause of CIN2+ is a chronic infection of the cervix with HPV, in particular with the high-risk HPV types 16 or 18. Like other intraepithelial neoplasias, CIN is not cancer and is usually curable. In a small percentage of cases, however, untreated cervical cancer develops, usually squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix (SCC).
